Motor Vehicle Law Changes in 2013

The New Year is ushering in new laws here in Florida. In this article we will briefly discuss changes to existing and new motor vehicle laws to keep you informed. The following two laws stood out in particular. Please take the time to educate yourself on these changes, as well as many others within the state of Florida

  1. Personal Injury Protection Insurance Coverage: Initial changes took effect of July 1st of 2012 but have officially started on the 1st of this year. If you are involved in an automobile accident, you will now have two weeks to seek medical or dental treatment for injuries sustained or related to your accident. While still eligible for $10,000 in coverage for emergency care, and up to $2,500 for minor injuries, Acupuncture and Massage Therapy treatments will no longer be covered.
  2. 2.       Warning Drivers of Speed Traps: Flashing other drivers your headlights to warn oncoming drivers of speed traps is no longer illegal. This was clarified after a judge ruled that some law enforcement agencies were misinterpreting a law that does not allow drivers to equip their vehicles with flashing emergency lights.
